How bulk and brush pickup differs city by city
The city you live in decides your schedule, how much you can put out and what is refused. Here is what each city's own page says — checked October 1, 2026.
| City | Who collects | Schedule | Limit | Notable rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| San Antonio | City Solid Waste Management | Curbside, twice a year per address; door hanger 7–10 days ahead | 8 cu yd within 8 ft of curb | Refuses construction/demolition, concrete, glass & mirrors, soil & rocks; out-of-cycle priced by pile Source |
| Helotes | City | Even months (Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec), by zone | 12 cu yd combined; bulk and brush separate | Freon refrigerators, construction debris and yard waste refused Source |
| Universal City | Frontier Waste Solutions | Weekly | 4 cu yd, front curb only | Freon appliances need certification attached; tires and contractor debris refused Source |
| Windcrest | Republic Services | Fall sweep in three sections; residents only | 5 cu yd within 8 ft of curb | Electronics, tires and construction debris refused; Sunday-before cutoff Source |
| Live Oak | Waste Management | First full week of each month, citywide | Not stated on the page reviewed | Items out before Monday; hazardous pickup via WM At Your Door Source |
| Castle Hills | City Public Works | Brush Wednesdays only | 3 brush piles a week; limbs ≤ 3 in | Bulky-item pickup not described in the guide reviewed Source |
Schedules and limits change. Confirm with your city before setting items out; we list sources so you can check.
If you live outside a city: unincorporated Bexar County
Texas Public Radio reported in August 2024:
- Unincorporated Bexar County has no county-run garbage service; residents choose a private hauler and pay a fee. Source
- Residents outside the city have three routes for bulky items: paying their own hauler for curb pickup, using a homeowner's association neighborhood bulky collection, or paying a landfill fee. Source
- County health officials said expanded bulk pickup could reduce illegal dumping in unincorporated areas. Source
Why a hauler fills the gaps
Across every program above the same gaps appear: collection windows you can miss, pile limits a real cleanout blows past, and refused items — construction debris, roofing, concrete, dirt, tires, electronics, appliances with refrigerant. Junk Removal SA isn't tied to any city's calendar. We come when you call and take what curbside programs won't. See the San Antonio details in our brush & bulky guide.
